Unfinished
All of our furniture is available unfinished if desired. Unfinished pieces
are carefully sanded and ready to finish.
Standard Finish (shown on top half of color chart)
The standard finish on our furniture lines is achieved through the use
of penetrating oil stain to provide the color desired. The oil stain penetrates
deep into the wood fibres to become an integral, breathing part of the wood
so that surface scratches, unless quite deep, will not expose bare wood.
Over the stain, we apply three coats of a high-solids lacquer. This provides
a hard, durable, protective finish. We then lightly sand the finish and apply
paste wax, hand polishing this to achieve a smooth, silky patina.
Upgrade One Finish (shown on lower half of color chart)
The Upgrade One Finishes are painted or washed finishes using our stock
colors. The painted colors are applied to achieve the desired depth of color.
If a wash is desired, excess pigment is then wiped off until the desired effect
is achieved. Three coats of a high-solids sanding sealer are then applied over the
color base. It is then lightkly sanded, and a final coat of clear lacquer is applied.
This final coat may be high-gloss, semi-gloss, or a satin finish.
Upgrade Two Finish
The Upgrade Two Finish is a painted or washed finish using a custom color
or a two-color finish which can combine paint and stain or two colors of paint
or two colors of stain. For example, a piece may have a stained top and a
painted body. After the base colors are applied, the same steps used on the
Upgrade One Finish are followed to achieve the same durable finish. The
final lacquer coat may be high-gloss, semi-gloss, or a satin finish. The Upgrade
Two Finish is also available slightly distressed.
